Rainy days can be a challenge for dog owners, especially if they love to go outside. Luckily, we’ve put together a list of fun and creative activities to keep your furry friend mentally and physically occupied, even when it’s pouring outside. From games to baking yummy cookies, discover how to have fun with your dog, even when the weather isn’t cooperating.
Mental games and toys
On a rainy day, it can be hard to keep your dog occupied, but luckily there are plenty of fun ways to keep their mind active! Brain games and puzzle toys are great options to stimulate your furry friend’s brain power and also keep them using their noses so they’re active and tired at the end of the day. Think about interactive toys like treat puzzles and hide-and-seek games around the house (putting treats somewhere by yourself). These games challenge your dog to think and find treats, which is not only fun, but also helps to prevent boredom by providing lots of mental stimulation.
Agility course.. But indoors!
Did you know that you can make a super fun course at home, with a little creativity and a few items such as chairs, cushions and hoops, you can create an exciting course for your dog to navigate. Teach your furry friend new tricks and commands and have fun together with DIY obstacles such as a tape for them to jump over. Not only is it a great way to stay active, but it also strengthens your bond and provides lots of fun.
Indoor retrieving and tug of war
Who says you can’t play fetch or tug indoors? As long as you have some space, you can easily play a modified version and have lots of fun together. Choose soft toys that are safe for indoor use and make sure there are no knocks and you’re good to go! Toss a ball or toy for your dog and encourage them to bring it back, if you’re still learning how to fetch we recommend rewarding your dog with a treat when they get it right! For a game of tug, use a soft piece of string or a rubber toy and let your dog tug while you gently stop them. Always make sure you’re playing in a safe area away from breakable objects to avoid accidents.
Homemade Treats
Get out your baking supplies and let your dog join in while you make some treats. There are lots of easy and healthy recipes you can try, like peanut butter cookies or even frozen yogurt balls. Let your dog wag his tail with delight as you both get together in the kitchen and enjoy making these tasty treats. There are literally tons of blogs online with yummy recipes and if there is demand we will share more blogs with fun recipes too!
Relaxation and quality time
There’s nothing better than spending quality time with your dog, and when it rains you can cuddle up all day long! But there are other things you can do too: think of massage sessions specifically for dogs and even aromatherapy to create a calm and relaxing environment. Check out our collection of cuddle blankets and beds for an extra touch of comfort during these moments of togetherness.
It is important to have indoor activities for your dog on rainy days. Doing these activities together can not only prevent boredom but also strengthen the bond with your dog.
